God Speaks Through Sermons

Galatians 2: 17-21

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

Galatians 2:20

Years ago, Major Ian Thomas gave a 22-minute address in a chapel at Multnomah School of the Bible. It was his oft-repeated sermon, “Any Old Bush Will Do,” about centering one’s life on Christ. Among the listeners was a frustrated graduate student from Argentina—Luis Palau, who later described how he “ran back to my room and in tears fell to my knees next to my bunk. ‘Lord, now I understand!’ I prayed in my native Spanish, the whole thing is ‘not I, but Christ in me.’ It’s not what I am going to do for You, but rather what You’re going to do through me.’ Palau later called this the turning point in his spiritual life. In the years since, Palau has preached to over a billion people and recorded more than a million registered decisions for Christ.

Whenever we read the Bible, quote it, teach it, preach it, share it, publish it, or spread it abroad, it speaks loud and clear. God’s Word never returns to Him void but accomplishes what He pleases (Isaiah 55:11). Any old mouthpiece will do—even yours! You can be confident of His power whenever you share His precepts.

A point to ponder…

One encounter with Jesus Christ is enough to change you, instantly, forever.
Luis Palau
