Sowing and Reaping

Deuteronomy 14: 22-29

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

Malachi 3:10

A spinning ride at an amusement park creates centrifugal force; you’re thrown away from the center. But the water going down your bathtub drain exhibits centripetal force; it draws things toward the center.

God’s plan for Israel in the Old Testament was centripetal. He promised to bless Israel to such an extent that nations would be drawn to Him in Jerusalem (1 Kings 4:29-34; 10:1-29; Zechariah 8:23). There was one condition: If Israel walked in God’s ways, He would bless them. The New Testament plan for the Church was different. Instead of drawing the nations to Jerusalem, Christ sent the Church to the nations with the Gospel (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). But the underlying principle of harvest remains true throughout: We reap as we sow (2 Corinthians 9:6; Galatians 6:7). If we give of ourselves to God as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1), He will respond with blessings the world will recognize.

Sow your seed in God’s fields and expect His harvest.

A point to ponder…

God’s seed will come to God’s harvest.
