What Does Love Do? Love Gives!
Acts 10: 1-2
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Since 1908, the Gideons International has been placing Bibles in motel and hotel rooms in the United States and distributing Scripture around the world. Unique to the hotel Bibles is the presentation of John 3:16 in many languages. Why this verse? Because it epitomizes what it means that God loves mankind: God loved so much that He gave.
In modern English-speaking cultures, love has been mischaracterized and misspelled as luv—a warm and fuzzy feeling. But love is not a feeling; love is an action. Just as God gave the life of His Son to the world, Jesus said that the greatest demonstration of love is to give one’s life for another (John 15:13). Love gives many things: help, money, food, shelter, advice, comfort, understanding, and more. Besides being an action verb, love is also a noun, a thing. When we give love, it is manifested as a selfless, sacrificial gift intended to bless and make better the experience of the beloved.
Our model for giving is God Himself. He gave so that we might be blessed. Imitate Him today by loving others through giving.
A point to ponder…
The limit of giving is to be the limit of our ability to give.
