Beyond Reproach
John 17: 13-19
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”
John 17:15-16
According to a recent Gallup poll, Americans disagree about almost every issue of morality except one—infidelity. Only nine percent say adultery is morally acceptable. But on almost every other issue the moral view is softening—divorce, sex between unmarried adults, doctor-assisted suicide, pornography, and polygamy. More people are condoning behavior that, from a biblical perspective, is ungodly.1
The truth is—it doesn’t matter what society thinks. The Word of God reflects the character of God and sets the standards of morality for humanity. At heart, Christians are counter-culturalists. We’re distinct from the world. We don’t adopt the convictions, standards, ways, or patterns of our society. We are determined to live above reproach, even when others are offended by our biblical lifestyle. While we don’t want to needlessly offend anyone, let’s never lower the standards of our godliness.
Christ calls us to live for Him—beyond reproach.
A point to ponder…
Pressure on the outside should make us bigger on the inside.
